18. Surah Al-Kahf (The Cave)
سُورَةُ الكهفReciter: Sheikh Mishary Rashid Alafasy • Guided by Ustadha Maryam Al-Dimashqiyyah
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
ٱلْحَمْدُal-ḥamduAll praise
لِلَّهِlillahi(is due) to Allah
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīWho
أَنزَلَanzalarevealed
عَلَىٰʿalāupon
عَبْدِهِʿabdihiHis Servant
ٱلْكِتَٰبَl-kitābathe Book
وَلَمْwalamand not
يَجْعَلyajʿalHe made
لَّهُۥlahutherein
عِوَجَاʿiwajāany crookedness
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance.
قَيِّمًاqayyimanStraight
لِّيُنذِرَliyundhirato warn
بَأْسًاbasan(of) a punishment
شَدِيدًاshadīdansevere
مِّنminfrom
لَّدُنْهُladun'huHim
وَيُبَشِّرَwayubashiraand to give glad tidings
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīna(to) the believers
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
يَعْمَلُونَyaʿmalūnado
ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِl-ṣāliḥātirighteous deeds
أَنَّannathat
لَهُمْlahumfor them
أَجْرًاajran(is) a reward
حَسَنًاḥasanangood
[He has made it] straight, to warn of severe punishment from Him and to give good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a good reward
إِذْidhWhen
أَوَىawāretreated
ٱلْفِتْيَةُl-fit'yatuthe youths
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْكَهْفِl-kahfithe cave
فَقَالُوا۟faqālūand they said
رَبَّنَآrabbanāOur Lord
ءَاتِنَاātināgrant us
مِنminfrom
لَّدُنكَladunkaYourself
رَحْمَةًraḥmatanmercy
وَهَيِّئْwahayyiand facilitate
لَنَاlanāfor us
مِنْminfrom
أَمْرِنَاamrināour affair
رَشَدًاrashadanright guidance
[Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, 'Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance.'
قُلْqulSay
إِنَّمَآinnamāOnly
أَنَا۠anāI am
بَشَرٌbasharuna man
مِّثْلُكُمْmith'lukumlike you
يُوحَىٰٓyūḥāit is revealed
إِلَىَّilayyato me
أَنَّمَآannamāthat
إِلَٰهُكُمْilāhukumyour God
إِلَٰهٌilāhun(is) God
وَٰحِدٌwāḥidunOne
فَمَنfamanSo whoever
كَانَkānais
يَرْجُوا۟yarjūhoping (for)
لِقَآءَliqāa(the) meeting
رَبِّهِۦrabbihi(with) his Lord
فَلْيَعْمَلْfalyaʿmallet him do
عَمَلًاʿamalandeeds
صَٰلِحًاṣāliḥanrighteous
وَلَاwalāand not
يُشْرِكْyush'rikassociate
بِعِبَادَةِbiʿibādatiin (the) worship
رَبِّهِۦٓrabbihi(of) his Lord
أَحَدًۢاaḥadananyone
Say, 'I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord — let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone.'
