22. Surah Al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage)
سُورَةُ الحجReciter: Sheikh Mishary Rashid Alafasy • Guided by Ustadha Maryam Al-Dimashqiyyah
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
يَٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsumankind
ٱتَّقُوا۟ittaqūFear
رَبَّكُمْrabbakumyour Lord
إِنَّinnaIndeed
زَلْزَلَةَzalzalatathe convulsion
ٱلسَّاعَةِl-sāʿati(of) the Hour
شَىْءٌshayon(is) a thing
عَظِيمٌʿaẓīmunterrible
O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the [final] Hour is a terrible thing.
يَوْمَyawma(On the) Day
تَرَوْنَهَاtarawnahāyou see it
تَذْهَلُtadhhaluwill forget
كُلُّkulluevery
مُرْضِعَةٍmur'ḍiʿatinnursing mother
عَمَّآʿammāthat which
أَرْضَعَتْarḍaʿatshe nursed
وَتَضَعُwataḍaʿuand will deliver
كُلُّkulluevery
ذَاتِdhātipossessor
حَمْلٍḥamlin(of) pregnancy
حَمْلَهَاḥamlahāher load
وَتَرَىwatarāand you will see
ٱلنَّاسَl-nāsamankind
سُكَٰرَىٰsukārāintoxicated
وَمَاwamāwhile not
هُمhumthey
بِسُكَٰرَىٰbisukārā(are) intoxicated
وَلَٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
عَذَابَʿadhāba(the) punishment
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
شَدِيدٌshadīdun(is) severe
On the Day you see it every nursing mother will be distracted from that [child] she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicated; but the punishment of Allah is severe.
وَجَٰهِدُوا۟wajāhidūAnd strive
فِىfīfor
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
حَقَّḥaqqa(with the) striving
جِهَادِهِۦjihādihidue to Him
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱجْتَبَىٰكُمْij'tabākumhas chosen you
وَمَاwamāand not
جَعَلَjaʿalaplaced
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
فِىfīin
ٱلدِّينِl-dīnithe religion
مِنْminany
حَرَجٍḥarajindifficulty
مِّلَّةَmillata(The) faith
أَبِيكُمْabīkum(of) your father
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahim
هُوَhuwaHe
سَمَّىٰكُمُsammākumunamed you
ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَl-mus'limīnathe Muslims
مِنminfrom
قَبْلُqablubefore
وَفِىwafīand in
هَٰذَاhādhāthis
لِيَكُونَliyakūnaso that may be
ٱلرَّسُولُl-rasūluthe Messenger
شَهِيدًاshahīdana witness
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumover you
وَتَكُونُوا۟watakūnūand you may be
شُهَدَآءَshuhadāawitnesses
عَلَىʿalāover
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsimankind
فَأَقِيمُوا۟fa-aqīmūSo establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَl-ṣalatathe prayer
وَءَاتُوا۟waātūand give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatathe Zakah
وَٱعْتَصِمُوا۟wa-iʿ'taṣimūand hold fast
بِٱللَّهِbil-lahito Allah
هُوَhuwaHe
مَوْلَىٰكُمْmawlākum(is) your Protector
فَنِعْمَfaniʿ'maso excellent is
ٱلْمَوْلَىٰl-mawlāthe Protector
وَنِعْمَwaniʿ'maand excellent is
ٱلنَّصِيرُl-naṣīruthe Helper
And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. He named you 'Muslims' before [in former scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So establish prayer and give zakah and hold fast to Allah. He is your protector; and excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.
